For many Ohioans, driving is an everyday part of life. Be it for work, daily chores or anything in between, driving is oftentimes unavoidable. Perhaps it's partly because of this casual frequency that some people start to develop bad driving habits such as talking on a phone, texting a friend, or driving after consuming alcohol. While these drivers may mean no harm, the truth is that these behaviors pose a serious risk to both the driver and those whom they share the road with.
This type of behavior may be the cause of car accident which occurred on Ohio 14 earlier this week. According to a spokesperson for the police department, three drivers were injured as a result of a crash caused when a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old male from Kent drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with two other cars. All of the drivers were taken to local medical facilities where they received treatments for their injuries. Thankfully, none of the injuries sustained in the crash were life-threatening.
While the exact causes of the crash remain under investigation, there are many common causes of car accidents which could be considered negligent behavior by the driver. Speeding, failing to follow posted traffic signs, using a cell phone to talk or text while driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or even driving without adequate sleep could all be considered negligent behavior.
These are all conditions which may leave a driver less capable of reacting on the road, and more prone to accidents. Should an accident occur as a result of one of these behaviors, the driver could be held legally liable for the accident and could be held financially responsible for the cost of medical bills, lost wages, and even pain and suffering?
