At some point in their lives, Ohioans have likely shared the road with a bad driver. Whether these individuals are speeding, using their phones or not paying attention to posted traffic signs, they often pose a threat to the safety of everyone around them. While many individuals make mistakes because of a lack of attention or awareness of the danger posed by their actions, there are occasional drivers who make reckless choices regardless of how well known the dangers are. Two such choices are drug-impaired or drunk driving, both of which cause fatal car accidents in Ohio every year.
A man who was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol has been charged by the police after causing a tragic and needless accident which took the lives of two people. The accident occurred in the Middletown area when the man failed to heed the stop sign and recklessly drove into the intersection, colliding with another car.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the second vehicle dead at the scene. A passenger from the same car was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, but passed away later that day.
Not only did the man's actions claim the lives of two people, but police suspect that this same individual was involved in a different accident earlier in the day, which luckily resulted in no serious injuries. In addition to aggravated vehicular homicide, the man has also been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Those who survive accidents with drunk drivers are often left with life-long physical repercussions, and the families of the deceased find themselves robbed of their loved ones. Victims can suffer financial consequences in addition to mental anguish. Those who are responsible for the accident are oftentimes held responsible in civil court, and the victims can get financial compensation to help ease their suffering.
