Careful drivers know that even a moment of negligence from behind the wheel can be the difference between a safe trip and a car accident. With this understanding, they typically avoid dangerous activities that take their attention away from driving. Some drivers unfortunately do not take the same cautious approach and can cause car accidents stemming from their negligent behaviors.
A recent car accident in Perkins Township, Ohio may be the consequence of a moment of poor decision making by one teenage driver. According to a statement released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old sped through a stop sign, colliding with another vehicle as it attempted to make a left turn. The driver was apparently distracted from the road by an object that fell in the vehicle, causing him to disregard the rules of the road and run into the vehicle.
The accident caused injuries to all three individuals involved, the two drivers and a passenger in the 18-year-olds vehicle. The driver of the turning vehicle was transported to a local medical facility to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The other two both received minor injuries and were also taken to a hospital to receive medical care.
When a driver make a negligent choice such as driving distracted, they may be held legally liable for an accident caused by their actions. For example, evidence that a driver was distracted by cell phone use in a vehicle could be used in a case against that individual for damages. If a driver responsible for causing an accident is found to be liable, they may be responsible for providing financial compensation of medical bills or pain and suffering.
