In a semi truck accident, the injuries caused to those involved are often serious or even fatal. Sadly, a recent truck accident outside Mt. Orab, a little over an hour from Dayton, left both drivers dead.
The head-on collision occurred between a recycling truck and a semi truck on the morning of Nov. 19. Both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on U.S. 68 when the Rumpke tire recycling truck left its lane and drifted into the other, hitting the semi truck head on. Both drivers died.
The area around the crash was closed into the evening hours so that crews could clean up. The fatal accident is still under investigation.
When there is an accident between two commercial trucks, police must conduct a full investigation to determine liability. If the recycling truck was at fault, then the next step is to find out, if possible, what caused the crash. Why was the recycling truck in the other lane? Was there an issue with the truck or was the driver distracted? Accidents can occur even when a driver takes his or her eyes off the road for a few seconds.
The next step is for the families of the deceased to determine their legal rights. If the driver of the recycling truck is at fault, the family of the semi truck driver may wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This will provide compensation to the families so they can pay for funeral expenses and other costs caused by the accident.
