Police officers often come to investigate at accident scenes, but they are not invincible. Sometimes they are involved in car accidents themselves and need medical assistance. That was what recently happened to an Ohio state trooper after she was rear-ended by a pickup truck in Sylvania, two hours outside Dayton.
The car accident happened just after midnight on Nov. 16. The trooper was facilitating road construction on U.S. Route 23, near the Monroe Street exit, when the driver of a pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer lost control of his vehicle. The 21-year-old man swerved to avoid hitting the stopped cars but instead ended up hitting the highway patrol car from behind.
The trooper suffered injuries but they are not expected to be life-threatening. She was transported to Toledo Hospital for medical treatment. The man suffered no injuries, but he did receive a citation for causing the accident.
Dealing with the after-effects of a car accident can be challenging. Even though the victim is a police officer whose work vehicle was damaged, she will likely have other things to deal with, including dealing with injuries and the medical bills that come with them. She may have to take time off work to recover from her injuries.
Those injured in a car accident caused by another person's negligence may be entitled to various damages. A lawsuit can help provide financial recovery for those who have suffered severe injuries and must deal with medical expenses, lost wages and perhaps even emotional damages such as disability, disfigurement or loss of enjoyment of life.
