Traffic laws are in place for a reason: to keep accidents from occurring so that those who use the roadways stay safe. When motorists ignore these laws, the result can be serious injuries or damage. A recent truck accident occurred in Ohio when a motorist failed to yield to a semi truck. The collision caused the truck to topple over an overpass, resulting in damage to a barrier. The truck driver is still recovering from his injuries.
The collision occurred on the evening of Feb. 6 on northbound I-475 in Maumee, two hours outside Dayton. A car was entering the highway from an on-ramp and the driver failed to yield to the semi truck. The car ended up hitting the right side of the truck. The truck veered into the left lane and hit a barrier, toppling over a bridge and onto the road below.
The driver of the car - a 29-year-old man - was not injured in the crash. The truck driver - a 25-year-old man - is receiving medical treatment at University of Toledo Medical Center for injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
Crews shut down the lanes until the following evening in order to repair the damaged barrier. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. They do not believe alcohol was a contributor.
Although truck drivers are often to blame for such accidents, this does not appear to be the case here. The driver of the car failed to yield and his negligence caused a great deal of road damage as well as injuries to the truck driver. The truck driver may wish to pursue a lawsuit depending on the severity of his injuries. He could receive compensation to pay for medical expenses and lost wages.
