Terminally ill woman seeks help with Social Security disability

People in Dayton who are seeking Social Security disability and have met the requirements sometimes still run into trouble receiving their payments. There are rules to receive Social Security disability benefits and even if a person meets all the criteria, there are instances where bureaucratic red tape and unjust decisions deprive them of their rights and they are denied Social Security. Often, the reason is simply a mistake or misreading of federal regulations regarding the requirements for Social Security disability.

A 45-year-old woman with a terminal condition lost her Social Security disability when her checks abruptly stopped. The woman had been told by one worker that she could still receive her benefits if she earned less than $1,019 per month. However, another worker stopped her payments claiming that she had received overpayments of nearly $11,000. Without her benefits, she has not been able to pay for her home or her bills. After contacting a local newspaper, she began to receive donations. Her U.S. senator contacted her and promised to examine the case. A supervisor at the Social Security office also told her that the matter would be dealt with swiftly. She is still waiting for her Social Security disability payments to be restored.

People who are ill, injured or infirm might be eligible to receive Social Security disability. In many instances, there are issues with receiving benefits or having the benefits taken away. The paperwork must be handled properly when applying for benefits. Factors such as filling out the forms correctly and getting all the necessary information from doctors are important. If there is a denial, it is imperative to know how to appeal. Many people are denied when they first apply, but this could be due to simply not providing all the information or an administrative error in filling out the paperwork.

In the case of the woman who lost her benefits, she is receiving a large amount of attention for what seems to be a snafu in the Social Security disability system. Political entities and a supervisor from her local office have gotten involved and she hopes she can restart her benefits soon.

When a person is seeking Social Security disability, it is a smart decision to discuss the matter with an attorney to understand how to handle the process to prevent mistakes that will lead to a denial. Legal professionals specializing in social security issues will ensure their client's rights are protected at all times.
