From time to time, some Dayton drivers have to calm themselves down when other drivers raise their anxieties. Whether the other drivers are driving fast or slow, well or poorly, aggravating driving behaviors can cause fellow travelers to tense up and get mad because of the offending drivers' tactics. In some cases that anger boils up to a dangerous level and if it remains unchecked it can lead to dangerous incidents of road rage.
Police officers in Dayton believe that road rage caused a serious car accident that injured four people. Prior to the accident, one of the involved vehicles was attacked by passengers in a second car. Individuals from the second car hit the first car with a tire iron, but the driver and passenger in the first car were able to drive away. The attackers then got back in their vehicle to pursue the first car.
While being chased by the attackers the first car was involved in a car accident with a previously uninvolved third vehicle. The two occupants of the first car, both of whom were pregnant, sustained injuries as well as the two occupants of the third vehicle. One of the third vehicle's occupants was last listed in serious condition with life-threatening injuries at Miami Valley Hospital.
Officials involved in the accident investigation believe that the attackers knew the two women in the first car and it is unknown if those attackers have been apprehended. Although they were not involved in the actual car crash, the attackers may still be held civilly responsible for all of the accident victims' injuries since they may have contributed to the accident through their purportedly violent behavior. All of the victims will likely have medical expenses resulting from the incident and they may choose to pursue damages from the aggressors to cover their accident-related costs.
