It can be scary for a motorist or passenger to turn around and see a fast-moving semi truck heading straight for the vehicle, with no intention of slowing down or stopping. That was the horror that one Ohio couple experienced just moments before they were rear-ended by a car that was hit by a tractor trailer. The impact caused them to plow into two vehicles in front of them, narrowly missing a school bus with children.
The truck accident happened on the morning of Sep. 9 outside Lima. A school bus was stopped to pick up children on State Route 309. It had four vehicles stopped behind it when a semi truck failed to slow down and slammed into the fourth vehicle. The impact caused a chain reaction and the other three cars were hit. The school bus was not involved in the crash.
There were no fatalities, but five people were injured. Three were taken to Lima Memorial Health System. Two others were taken to St. Rita's Medical Center and have since been released. One couple remains in critical condition.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the semi truck accident. The area was foggy earlier in the day, but there wasn't any fog at the time of the crash. The 29-year-old truck driver was not injured and he allegedly was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
When a person is injured due to another motorist's negligence, he or she can file a lawsuit to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other damages. However, truck accident claims can be complicated due to the number of possible liable parties involved.
