College students are known for having fun and partying, but when a person decides to drive intoxicated, lives are put in danger. Four Ohio students were recently involved in a crash on a college campus after a driver side-swiped another vehicle, while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. All are expected to be OK.
The car accident happened at Kent State University on the evening of April 8. The two vehicles were near an intersection on the college campus when a woman traveled into the adjacent lane and hit a Jeep with three men inside. Two of the men were ejected from the Jeep and were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. The other man was not injured. All four victims are students at Kent State University.
The woman who caused the crash was also hospitalized. She admitted to Ohio State Highway Patrol officers that she was using alcohol and drugs before the accident. Officers are still investigating the crash.
Car accident liability is based on negligence. Motorists are expected to drive in a responsible manner at all times, and look out for the safety of themselves and others. When a rule or law is not followed, accidents can happen.
The drunk driver will likely be considered liable for the accident. Given that driving under the influence is illegal, it is possible that she could face charges for her actions. The severity of her punishment will depend on her blood alcohol content. She may face fines and jail time, as well as an impounded vehicle and revocation of her driver's license.
